PodCamp NYC Has a Film Festival in Mind

February 25, 2008

I admit that I’m a bit lame for just copy/pasting the information for this post from a letter, but I wanted to pass the information on to you:

There’s a free “unconference” happening April 25th & April 26th, 2008 called PodCampNYC we’d love to invite you to, and showcase any new media oriented work you’re doing to our community. Our focus is on education towards all aspects of media, whether it be Podcasting, vlogging, using Facebook, Twitter, or any other Social Media application. The nature of our event is that anyone can sign up to speak and come, and all voices are equal in an atmosphere focused on networking and sharing of expertise.

Last year we had an event with about 1,000 people, many leading minds in traditional and new media along with a wide array of professionals from ad agencies and other professional organizations. This year we wanted to reach out to students and teachers in the greater NYC area to learn from you and provide an atmosphere where you could network with folks who could potentially provide jobs, resources, or insights that could help promote your work or learning.

To that end, we wanted to invite you to submit short videos (two minutes or under) to our “Future of Media And Education” festival. All videos will be showcased at PodCampNYC, and creators will get a chance to have their work critiqued by professionals and other students in an effort to help them improve their work and/or find resources to have their work showcased beyond our event.

You can learn more about PodCampNYC (and sign up to speak/attend) by going to our site at: www.podcampnyc.org. You can submit your videos here: http://www.dailymotion.com/group/TheFutureOfMediaAndEducation and they’ll also appear on our site.

Here are the submission guidelines:

* While the purpose of this festival will be to raise awareness of how new media can enrich the learning experience, submissions do not have to focus on new media. Students can let their imaginations run wild and fully express their vision of how schools will, should or could be run in the future.

* Films/media visuals/content should have some focus on NYC area as winning entries may be used by NYC’s Mayor’s office for marketing purposes. To that end, all entrants will sign a waiver recognizing their entries may be used for these purposes, with full attribution given to their school/organization and them as the media creators.

* Film/Video submissions should be no more than two minutes long and can be anything from animation to still photography to full motion video.

* Audio submissions should be no longer than two minutes long and should be in mp3 format.

* Text submissions should be no longer than 500 words.

* Although submissions from around the country/world are welcome and may be displayed on Dailymotion, material highlighted at PodCampNYC, etc. will be drawn from New York City environs (five boroughs, New Jersey, etc.).

* All submissions will be vetted and displayed on www.Dailymotion.com/group/SchooloftheFuture (a custom contest page will be created).

* Content will be co-branded by sponsors (New York City Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting, PodCampNYC, Daily Motion, and Morpheus Media).

* There will be no winners and no losers, this is an IDEA FESTIVAL!

Please feel free to send on questions about the Festival or PodCampNYC to John C. Havens (Lead Organizer for the event) – johnhavens@blogtalkradio.com.

We greatly look forward to your video submissions and participation at PodCampNYC in April!

Best regards,

The PodCampNYC Organizers
