Video is Power Chords

I could watch these over and over:
If you need reminders that the world isn’t *ALL* bad:
For every time you feel a little down, or unimportant:
The POWER
Audio isn’t dead. Okay, Shel. You’re totally right. Audio is alive and well, and all the comments attest to it. You’re totally right. And sure there’s some amazing audio in the world. Completely.
I’m going to keep putting my heart in here. Right in the video box. Why? Because when video’s done well (not professionally, but MEANINGFULLY), it is purely, blisteringly emotionally good and moves us powerfully.
Oh… but is this a trick? It is. Why? Because the MUSIC really helps these videos, and that’s audio. Right? Ohhhh!!! I’ve tricked you! It’s audio too!
It’s a floor wax *and* a dessert topping.
Go ahead say it!

Without getting into the philosophical debate, Chris, can I just tell you that you made my day with this?
Thanks!
You’re totally right, too, Chris.
I’ve been remiss in not getting back to you — it’s this brutal travel schedule. In fact, on my flight home tonight I hope (if I don’t fall asleep) to write a follow-up post based on all the comments to my item. But I did want you to know that, while I didn’t articulate it well in my post, I did understand that you were talking about advertising and sponsorship in your post. But if the dollars flow to video, doesn’t it fall that dollars won’t flow to audio? Hence my point about radio thriving despite the growth of TV in the 40’s and 50’s.
Also, most of the video I see — even that which is compelling and heartfelt — is broad and general. That might get an ad for soap from Procter & Gamble, while my audio podcast — aimed at people who practice PR and organizational communications — gets a sponsorship and advertising from a media monitoring service and a communications company, neither of whom would perceive any benefit of advertising on something that reaches a broad audience. A lot of audio podcasting is all about the niche!
In any case, I regret not meeting you at PME, too. I was only there for a few hours — in from Chicago the night before and off to London the next morning. But we’ll get together one of these days, and I’m buying the drinks.
Hey Chris,
I have been a regular reader of your feed as ur in my google reader but this post has really touched my heart . I am really impressed by your personality , by reading your posts, by seeing what contribution you want to make to the society, by noticing that how active you are in this technology world, by admiring how many people heart do you touch by these small things… If i ever come to US and dont meet you my journey would not be worth it..
I look forward to meet you somewhere sometime in person.
Keep up the good work.
You simply rocks.

People intake information in different ways. Text is not audio is not video. To say any one of these media (or countless others) is dead / irrelevant / “better” than the other is to miss the point:
To each message, its media.
I might learn about X faster through video, but you might process text about X better.
Meanwhile, I might prefer an audio book on a trip, and you might have the time to read.
“Free Hugs” would be far less effective without the music… for you. And me. But perhaps not Person C.
Majority rules, though. We can’t stop evolving just because some folks are late to the multimedia sensation party…
