Day In the Life

chrisbrogan · April 6, 2005 ·

When I wake up, I force myself upright and into my sweats. It’s 4:30, man. 4-f’ing-thirty. I should still be asleep. Then, I do my business, brush teeth and stuff, and scram.
My gym bag’s already packed. I do that before bed, which is early, by the way. 9PM or 9:30, if I can help it. 10 if I’m stupid. I grab that and head out the door.
I try to be at my gym by 5:00AM, when Ellen unlocks the front door. You know you’re working out enough when the lady opening the gym can say your name before she types your number into the computer.
The iPod today was 50-50 Metallica and System of a Down. Talk about making you move fast.
I like to do a little warming up. Lately, that’s with a jumprope. I can usually do something like 1:52 before I trip over my shoe or something. Because it’s almost always at that time, I assume it’s fatigue, and that maybe I’ll get more dextrous as my abilities get better. Who knows?
The next part’s a bit ambiguous. Lately, I’ve been banging out a load of pushups, curlups (which are like crunches), those bastard flutterkicks, some other abby stuff, and then I’ve VERY recently been doing a cable circuit. I make it up as I go. For every pull, a push. For every up, a down. Then, bodyweight or light weight squats. Something for hams like climbing up and down boxes.
I go upstairs next. Lately, that means hitting the elliptical machines. I am fascinated by the calories burned versus time spent ratio. When you get that thing up to 75 resistance and 10 out of 10 for elevation, it’s like climbing a mean mo-fo hill, and I can feel the sweat trickling down on me like I’m trying to cut the right wire on the bomb. Which one? WHICH ONE?!?!?
I watch MTV while doing this. I used to watch COPS.
When I’m done, I hit the showers, change back up, and head home for breakfast. Breakfast is a smoothie almost every day. I like them because I can load them with whey protein powder, tons of fiber, fresh or frozen fruit, lots of calcium, and whatever else seems like a good addition to my dietary needs.
I spend a little time with the wife and that space alien. Then, I go to work all day.
[blah blah … time passes.]
A month or so from now, we’ll probably add an evening walk to the mix, because I’d like that. Right now, with work being crazy, I’m not getting home until 7PM. Oh, and I play tennis one night a week with the guys. That’s a hoot. You should try it.
So, that’s the average weekday in my life. I don’t workout as much on the weekends, though I like to do something fun.
What’s your day in the life like?
