Blam!

chrisbrogan · February 7, 2005 ·

(I thought of Jon (my friend from Mass) last night. He is the most diehard Pats fan I know.)
Day 1 of my revamped training. I got some great information from a few magazines. The most recent Men’s Fitness, Men’s Health, and Men’s Health Muscle were my starting points. And man, I am BEAT. It was excellent. And, oh yeah, I didn’t use a single weight.
I did pushups. 75 pushups. I did chinups. 3 plus 16 negatives. I did box squats (where you lower yourself down onto a box as a way to measure the proper depth of a squat) 45 times (ow!). I did 45 lunges (or 90 total divided for each leg). I did step-ups on the 20-inch box 30 times. I did 200 crunches.
Oh, and I sprinted in between each set. (Sometimes, I jogged because I was so winded from the effort).
It’s amazing how watching three-time Superbowl winners and their not-so-lucky opponents display incredible athleticism drives you to find even deeper reserves of energy and move harder. I was sweating like crazy. I looked like a flabby boxer getting into his first week of training for a title bout. And that’s exactly how I felt.
I’ve got a 5 day workout week planned this week, with my typically “off” days set up for heavy calisthenics routines. I stole 1/3 from The US Marine Corps workout book and the Special Ops workout book , and the rest from other stuff I’ve been plucking from here and there. Sprinting drills are back. I did 5K today, at least 2/3 sprints.
And, even though Jon (Michigan this time) hates Men’s Health magazine, but I really liked the article this month from Matthew McConaughey. It’s hard to sum it up, but it was about the spirit of fitness, and it’s worth a read. Even if you sneak into the local library and read their copy instead of shelling out a few bucks. Great read.
Journaling my food (on paper, not here, silly!) begins again today.
Oh, and new pictures coming shortly.
How was your weekend? Did you find new challenges to conquer?
